We test the gas pressure to ensure that the pressure meets product specifications. Measurements are quantified as the amount of air pressure it takes to move water one inch in a tube. This provides an accurate measurement to help determine if your tankless system will perform correctly. If there is too much pressure, your burning flame will be too high, and the combustion area is too small. With a high pressure gas, ignited, forced into a small area, you can end up with a fireball instead of a quiet, smooth running system. The burn can also create a lot of soot, and in turn, this can plug the top of the system with soot, and you can end up with carbon monoxide in your house.
Also, if you have too much gas pressure, you pay too much for energy because you will send unburned gas up the flue - resulting in wasted energy, and higher bills.
If you don’t have enough gas pressure, you will end up with a cold shower and another service and repair bill to fix the problem.
We test the combustion of your tankless system to be certain that it is burning the gas properly so that it does not pose an excessive threat to your safety and well being. Like any heating unit, when a system is not burning gas properly, it can emit carbon monoxide, a potentially fatal gas.
You can’t smell it, see it, or taste it, but it is a real danger. Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Once exposed, the deadly gas seeps into the air sacks of your lungs where it binds with the red cells in yourblood that carry life-giving oxygen through your body. Carbon monoxide latches on to red blood cells faster than oxygen, so your blood becomes increasingly saturated with carbon monoxide with each breath. Carbon monoxide prevents oxygen from entering the blood stream.
Within just minutes of exposure, sufferers can experience flu-like symptoms such as headaches, sore eyes, and a runny nose. If exposure continues and carbon monoxide attaches to 10-15% of the blood's hemoglobin, exposed individuals will feel dizzy, achy, or confused. When carbon monoxide levels increase to saturate 30-40% of the bloodstream, a person becomes drowsy, lethargic. As the person slips into a coma they face potential damage to the nervous system. At 60-70% saturation, carbon monoxide is fatal. Carbon monoxide kills thousands of people each year. Any system emitting carbon monoxide must be fixed!
